Dreamdisk Version 3 FDC, RTC & HDC PCB

Post by johnhalk »

Hi All,

I have an original Dreamdisk V3 PCB - this was an upgrade from the original Dreamdisk V2 (which has been copied with a new design).

The V3 Dreamdisk added RTC and a HDC interface to the FDC. The Z80 50 PIN BUS pinout is Microbee and not Sorcerer. An external "adapter" PCB is required to remap the Z80 bus signals from Microbee to Sorcerer.

Appropriate circuits are provided on the Dreamdisk V3 controller board to modify the Z80 signals for use by a Western Digital 1002-05 hard disk controller board (ST-506 hard disk interface).

The Dreamdisk V3 PDF user manual is available here.

In the Dreamdisk V3 controller (floppy / HDD / RTC) PDF Manual mention is made on how to use a WD1002-05 / HDO MFM hard disk controller with the Dreamdisk V3 controller.

I have seen photos of an original Dreamdisk V3 hard disk system (supplied by Chickenman) but it had a PC XT 8 bit ISA bus WD controller connected to the Dreamdisk HDD I/O port.
Well this is how they did it:
